The benefits of implementing a multi-cloud strategy are no longer in dispute, a point that is validated by the data – according to IDC, over 80% of enterprises in the Asia Pacific are operating in a hybrid and multi-cloud environment, with a mix of private and public infrastructures. The question that technology leaders need to ask themselves now is not whether to move to multi-cloud, but to choose which vendor to serve as the core foundation of their multi-cloud strategy.
Google Cloud multi-cloud solutions carry a wide number of advantages. In this article, we’ll share the benefits of using GCP in a transformation to multi-cloud and why we believe it is the ideal choice for most businesses.
Why we don’t advise working with a single cloud vendor
Some Businesses are attracted by the cost savings of relying on a single cloud provider, since in such cases the vendors are more likely to offer more discounts. Also, they suppose it’s safer to implement a single-cloud strategy. However, this often results in the business being contractually tied to that provider which we call vendor-lock in. The followings are two disadvantages of relying on a single provider:
Limited flexibility (vendor lock-in)
In a 2021 IBM survey of over 7,000 C suite executives across the globe concerning the state of their cloud deployment, nearly 80% of respondents said that workloads being completely portable with no vendor lock-in was important or extremely important to the success of their digital initiatives. When a company is locked in with a single cloud provider, it results in a limit on alternative cloud configurations that could potentially enhance other parts of your business.
Unhealthy for business performance and innovation
In the above survey, almost 70% of respondents said being locked in with one cloud vendor was a major hurdle to improving business performance in most of all parts of their cloud infrastructure. Companies that only have access to the strengths and features of one cloud provider will also struggle to develop the value-added services for customers and new features that the business needs to grow because every vendor has its own strengths.
